Solution for WordPress: Googlebot cannot access CSS and JS files; Webmaster

Google is now pushing a new warning via Google Webmaster panel that Googlebot is unable to access CSS and JavaScript files on your website. This is chiefly because the robots.txt file doesn’t give access to the Google that helps the search engine understand the layout of the website so that it too, like the user can see your webpage.

Google also clearly mentions that if your website does allow its bot to index CSS and JS files, rankings will be affected.

Solution to this problem is to edit your robots.txt file. If you are a WordPress user, follow these steps.

1. In the wordpress, search and install this plugin “WP Robots Txt”. Go to Settings > Reading to find it.
2. Then adds access to JS and CSS files. For a wordpress site, make sure it reads like this:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
Disallow: /wp-admin/
Disallow: /wp-includes/
Disallow: /wp-content/cache/
Allow: /wp-content/themes/
Allow: /wp-content/plugins/
Allow: /wp-content/uploads/
Allow: /wp-includes/css/
Allow: /wp-includes/js/
Allow: /wp-includes/images/

3. Save it and click the first two buttons as shown in your Webmaster’s messages area.
